DONATE FOR THE EDUCATION OF GIRLS

Latina Girl believes in the power of Kantaya education. Since we started, we have donated both books from the children's literature saga “Catalina and Sofía”, as well as a percentage of the sales of the books, to educate girls from the NGO Kantaya.

Kantaya empowers children ages 5 to 12 to achieve their dreams, with an intellectual and social-emotional learning program, which they attend after school. These are taught in the Casitas Felices of Ventanilla, Peru. In this way, children can learn without limits and remain children. Learn more about Kantaya at: www.kantayaperu.com and consider donating. There you will find how to make a donation to Kantaya. Chica Latina does not receive any type of donation for Kantaya. If you want to donate or collaborate, you must contact them directly.

We decided to invest specifically in the education of girls, because several studies show that educating a girl has a multiplier effect on society. Therefore, by educating a girl, we have the possibility to improve the lives of the children of the future.

OUR HISTORY WITH KANTAYA

On Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 4pm, we launched the first book in the Catalina and Sofía series, titled: “Catalina and Sofía in the underground world of Cusco” , at the Lima Book Fair (FIL).

Our guests of honor were 25 children who study after school in the “Happy Houses” of the NGO Kantaya that operates in Ventanilla.

They came on a bus, took a tour of Miraflores, learned about what a book fair is and accompanied us at the event.

The founders of Kantaya, Fabiola Portocarrero and Yessica Flores, also accompanied us. Lu Arispe, actress, teacher and clown, told the story and was in charge of the presentation.

Many of the Kantaya boys visited Miraflores for the first time. Here they are at the Miraflores Lighthouse, in Lima – Peru.

  • In this photo, we see Fabiola Portocarrero, co-founder of Kantaya, and Jackie Saettone, founder of Chica Latina, on the bus with the Kantaya children. Here they were about to leave for Miraflores.

  • Here we see some of the children under the “tree of dreams”.

  • At the end of the presentation, everyone wrote their biggest dream on colored paper, made little airplanes with them, and placed them on the “dream tree.”

  • Their next stop was the Book Fair. In this photo we see them at the presentation of the book “Catalina and Sofía in the underground world of Cusco.”

The second book in the series, “Catalina and Sofia among the bones of Kuélap” , is presented in one of the Little Happy Houses where the Kantaya children study. The teachers organized all kinds of activities around the content of the book: theater, dance, puzzles, crafts, the kids even interviewed the author like real reporters. We share with you a video of the event

The third book in the series, “Catalina and Sofía Apprentices of Guardians” , came out in the middle of the pandemic. The pandemic was difficult for Kantaya , since it was not possible for the children to go to the Happy Houses . However, Kantaya adapted to this situation and the Kantaya children used WhatsApp to continue learning, and after a while they received tablets. Thus, we were able to donate the third book in the series so that the teachers could load them on the tablets.

We love Kantaya for the love and passion with which they work to transform lives! The result is clearly seen in the children. Here you can see a video of Mayra Taype, the first Kantaya girl to graduate from university.

Congratulations Mayra and Congratulations Kantaya! 😊🌈❤️💪🦋
